The Ministry of Education has released the 2025 school placement results for candidates who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Out of the 603,328 students who wrote the exams, 590,309 qualified for placement into Senior High Schools (SHSs), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs), and Technical and Vocational Institutions (TVIs).
According to the Ministry, 483,800 candidates — representing 82 percent — have been automatically placed in schools of their choice. However, 107,509 students will need to use the self-placement portal to secure admission.
Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, explained that the overwhelming demand for top-tier schools meant not all candidates could be matched with their initial preferences. He encouraged affected students to take advantage of the active self-placement system.
As part of this year’s placement exercise, the Ministry is piloting 70 private schools under the Free SHS programme. Initially, only 21 of these schools were listed during selection, but all 70 are now available on the placement portal.
In total, the 2025 school placement covers 724 public SHSs/SHTSs, 233 TVIs, and 70 private SHSs. To support students and parents, resolution centres have been set up at the district, regional, and national levels, with the GNAT Hall in Accra serving as the national centre.
The Ministry also reminded parents and guardians that school placement is free of charge and cautioned against making payments to individuals who may demand money in exchange for placements.
