Ghana’s commitment to climate action and environmental recovery was on display as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, joined the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to inspect a reclaimed mining site at Manso Adubia in the Amansie South District.
The site, once heavily degraded by illegal mining activities, has been restored to safe and productive use through a public–private partnership with Newmont Ghana Limited. The reclamation effort highlights how responsible land restoration can play a critical role in climate change mitigation by reducing land degradation, protecting ecosystems, and restoring carbon-absorbing landscapes.
The visit reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda in action, with a strong focus on reversing environmental damage, safeguarding critical national infrastructure, and promoting sustainable livelihoods for mining-affected communities. Restored lands such as Manso Adubia are expected to support climate-resilient agriculture, reduce flood risks, and protect water bodies that are increasingly vulnerable to climate-induced stress.
Speaking during the inspection, the ministers emphasized that reclaiming degraded lands is not only an environmental obligation but a climate necessity, particularly in forest and watershed zones threatened by illegal mining. They stressed the need to scale up reclamation efforts nationwide as part of Ghana’s broader climate adaptation and mitigation strategy.
The Manso Adubia project stands as a practical example of how government leadership, private sector responsibility, and community-focused solutions can work together to tackle climate change, restore ecosystems, and secure a more sustainable future for generations to come.
