Ablakwa in Burkina Faso to Strengthen Security and Bilateral Ties

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has commenced a two-day official visit to Burkina Faso aimed at deepening security cooperation and strengthening diplomatic relations between the two neighbouring countries.

Mr. Ablakwa announced his arrival in Burkina Faso, where he and his delegation were received by the country’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Kenneth Akibate.

The visit comes in the wake of growing security concerns within the sub-region. Prior to his departure from Accra, the Minister visited the 37 Military Hospital to express empathy and solidarity with Ghanaian compatriots who were airlifted home by the Ghana Air Force after sustaining injuries during the February 14 terrorist attack.

The gesture underscores Ghana’s commitment to supporting its citizens affected by regional insecurity while reinforcing the urgency of collaborative security efforts across borders.

According to Mr. Ablakwa, the official visit will focus on enhancing security cooperation, holding high-level political consultations, and signing strategic agreements to consolidate bilateral relations.

Observers say strengthened diplomatic engagement between Ghana and Burkina Faso is critical at a time when terrorism and transnational threats continue to challenge stability in West Africa. The visit is expected to promote coordinated responses, intelligence sharing, and stronger institutional partnerships to safeguard lives and foster regional peace.

As West Africa confronts complex security realities, Ghana’s renewed diplomatic outreach signals a broader call for unity, collective responsibility, and sustained political commitment toward lasting stability in the sub-region.
