As climate change continues to threaten food security and rural livelihoods across Ghana, the AQ-Hanson Care Foundation has taken a practical step to strengthen community resilience by supporting smallholder farmers in the Komenda–Edina–Eguafo–Abrem (KEEA) Municipality.
The Foundation, which believes in the power of using human connections to empower lives and transform tomorrow, recently invited farmers within KEEA to apply for support aimed at improving farm productivity and sustaining livelihoods amid changing climatic conditions.
The call received an overwhelming response, reflecting the growing pressures farmers face from unpredictable rainfall patterns, rising temperatures, soil degradation, and increasing production costs. Following a thorough assessment process, twenty (20) farmers were carefully selected across the various zones of KEEA to ensure equitable distribution and community-wide impact.
At a short ceremony held at Attabadze, the selected farmers received financial support to assist their farm activities. While the amounts were undisclosed, the intervention is expected to help beneficiaries invest in climate-smart inputs, land preparation, and adaptive farming practices.
The beneficiary farmers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Foundation, describing the support as timely and critical in the face of climate-related farming challenges. They offered prayers for the continued growth of the Foundation and expressed hope that the initiative would be expanded to reach more farmers.
Leadership at AQ Hanson Care Foundation urged the farmers to put the support to good use and ensure that its intended purpose—improving productivity while promoting sustainability—is achieved.
AQ-Hanson Care Foundation reaffirmed its belief that farmers play a vital role in the development of KEEA and Ghana at large, particularly as agriculture remains one of the sectors most vulnerable to climate change impacts.
The Foundation also extended sincere appreciation to its donors and partners whose support continues to make such interventions possible, noting that collective action is essential to building climate-resilient communities and safeguarding livelihoods.
As climate change intensifies, initiatives like this underscore the importance of community-driven, people-centred solutions that empower farmers, strengthen food systems, and secure a more sustainable future.
