The Bureau of Ghana Languages has renewed calls for a deeper national commitment to the preservation, promotion and active use of Ghana’s indigenous languages. This call was made at a National Stakeholder Dialogue held under the theme, “The Promotion and Use of the Ghanaian Languages for National Development.”

Addressing participants, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie underscored the critical role local languages play in strengthening national identity, unity and development. She referenced global research showing that education delivered in one’s mother tongue significantly enhances learning outcomes. Hon. Gomashie therefore encouraged stronger partnerships and coordination to expand the teaching and utilisation of Ghanaian languages across schools and communities.
Acting Director of the Bureau of Ghana Languages, Mr. Ebenezer Ahiator, Esq., applauded the Ministry for initiating the dialogue, stressing that Ghana’s rich linguistic diversity is a national asset that can drive unity, creativity and innovation. He highlighted key priority areas—including policy enhancement, curriculum integration, teacher development, digital language solutions and cultural entrepreneurship—linking the efforts to President Mahama’s “Resetting Agenda.”

The dialogue brought together policymakers, educators, language experts and cultural advocates, all of whom reaffirmed their dedication to safeguarding Ghana’s linguistic heritage. Participants also pledged to support a national roadmap aimed at promoting multilingualism, cultural pride and inclusive development.
The Bureau expressed confidence that sustained collaboration among stakeholders will ensure that Ghanaian languages remain vibrant, relevant and central to national progress.
