Cape Coast, Sept. 15, 2025 – A fatal accident at Wakrom Junction near Yamoransa on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway has claimed five lives and left twelve others injured, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The crash, which occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Monday, involved a DAF truck (AW 9548-13) loaded with 700 bags of rice and a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle (GC 9728-21).
The GNFS Rescue Team from the Central Regional Headquarters arrived at the scene at 2:59 p.m. and immediately began operations. Rescuers extricated five victims trapped in the mangled Hiace, but tragically, four were later pronounced dead at the hospital. One critically injured passenger is currently receiving treatment.
In addition, twelve other passengers had already been rushed to the hospital before GNFS personnel arrived, but one was later confirmed dead, bringing the total fatalities to five.
The driver and mate of the DAF truck escaped the crash unhurt. Rescue efforts are ongoing to free one person still trapped in the wreckage.
In all, the accident has resulted in 17 casualties – five confirmed dead and twelve injured. The injured are receiving care at nearby health facilities.
The crash caused heavy traffic congestion on the busy Cape Coast–Accra Highway as emergency services worked to save lives and clear the scene. Authorities have since appealed to motorists to exercise extreme caution on the stretch to prevent further tragedies.
