The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured the family of the late Nana Agyei Ahyia of government’s commitment to uncovering the truth surrounding his death and pursuing justice.

The Minister disclosed that he met with the family earlier today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he personally conveyed his deepest condolences and provided an update on steps taken by the Ministry following the tragic incident.
According to Hon. Ablakwa, the Ministry promptly dispatched a fact-finding mission from Ghana’s Embassy in Germany, which also holds concurrent accreditation to Latvia, to gather firsthand information on the circumstances surrounding Nana Agyei Ahyia’s death.
He revealed that the fact-finding team has since submitted a preliminary report to the Ministry. Additionally, Latvian authorities have formally confirmed that investigations into the case are still ongoing and have not yet been concluded.

As part of efforts to deepen engagement and ensure accountability, the Foreign Minister announced that he has officially notified the Latvian government of his decision to travel to Latvia to hold discussions with his counterpart and engage directly with investigators handling the case.
Hon. Ablakwa further disclosed that the planned delegation to Latvia will include representatives of the family of the late Nana Agyei Ahyia, to ensure transparency and inclusiveness in the process.

He also stated that the Government of Ghana will engage independent experts to analyse all investigative reports, particularly the anticipated final report from Latvian authorities, to guide the country’s next steps in the interest of justice.

The Foreign Minister reiterated government’s resolve to protect the rights and welfare of Ghanaians abroad and to ensure that justice is pursued in cases involving Ghanaian citizens overseas.
