The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly refuted claims circulating in a viral video that allege Ghanaian passports are being issued to foreign nationals without proper scrutiny.
In a press release issued today, the Ministry described the allegations as “false and baseless,” emphasizing that passport applications undergo rigorous checks to verify the nationality of applicants. “The submission of documents does not guarantee the automatic issuance of passports,” the statement clarified.
According to the Ministry, every applicant is subjected to in-person vetting interviews in addition to document verification. These steps are designed to cross-check information provided on application forms and ensure only eligible Ghanaians receive passports.
The Ministry assured the public that its systems are secure and that under no circumstance will it grant such an essential national security document to non-citizens. It further noted ongoing investments in modern technology and staff training aimed at strengthening passport issuance protocols.
In a stern warning, the Ministry reminded the public that the use of fake or forged documents in dealings with the Ministry is a criminal offense, punishable under Sections 158, 159, 166, and 169 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
“The integrity of the Ghanaian passport remains intact,” the statement concluded, urging the public to disregard the misleading video and report any suspicious passport activities to the authorities.
