From the Shores of Ghana to the World: The Fisherman Movie Premieres Today at Silverbird, Accra Mall, and West Hills Mall.

The much-anticipated Ghanaian comedy The Fisherman premieres today at Silverbird Cinemas, Accra Mall, promising audiences laughter, culture, and heart.

The film follows the story of Atta Oko, a seasoned traditional fisherman forced into retirement, who unexpectedly finds himself on a whimsical adventure. Teaming up with a bougie talking fish and its quirky companions, Atta journeys through Accra in pursuit of his dream—owning a boat—while balancing the challenges of modern life without losing touch with his cultural roots.

Blending humor with heart, The Fisherman is not only laugh-out-loud funny but also a moving tale of resilience, family, and the enduring spirit of a true fisherman. The film beautifully captures Ghana’s rich culture through vibrant cinematography and storytelling.

Written and directed by Zoey Martison and produced by Kofi Owusu-Afriyie, the movie was shot entirely in Ghana in 2024. The cast features an exciting mix of rising Ghanaian talents such as Ricky Adeleyitar, Endurance Grand, William Lamptey, and Kiki Romi, alongside veteran stars Fred Amugi, Roselyn Ngissah, Dorothy Konadu, Mynna Otoo, Adjeezay, Adwoa Akoto, Andrew Adote, Shadrack Agyare, Princess Fathia Nkrumah, and Papa Osei. Nigerian actor Dulo Harris also makes a special appearance.

What began as a short debut feature has blossomed into an internationally acclaimed film. The Fisherman has earned several honors, including the Programmer’s Award for Short Narrative at the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) 2019, and Best Narrative Feature at the American Black Film Festival. It was also a finalist at HBO Shorts at ABFF, Cinequest, Brussels Short Film Festival, and Festival International du Film PanAfricain de Cannes, while also being officially selected for Diversity in Cannes 2020.

Its recognition at the Venice Film Festival stands as a proud milestone not only for its creators but also for Ghana and the wider African film industry.
