The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has amended its statutes to extend the presidential term limit from two to three terms.
The decision was adopted at the Association’s 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram, an annual gathering mandated by Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes (2019) ahead of each football season. The Congress reviews the Association’s progress, presents financial and activity reports, and sets strategic priorities for football development in Ghana.
This year’s session brought together delegates from all 124 member bodies to discuss key governance reforms. The approved amendment, in line with statutes of both FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will permit a GFA president to serve a maximum of three four-year terms—equivalent to 12 years in office.
According to the GFA, the change is intended to promote leadership stability and support the execution of long-term development strategies. The reform, reportedly endorsed by FIFA, could have a direct impact on current GFA President Kurt Okraku, who is in his second term with two years left to serve.
