Ghana yesterday welcomed Captain Arnaud Bolelli and the crew of the French Landing Helicopter Dock Tonnerre to Tema, marking a key step in strengthening maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.
The visit highlights the strong partnership between Ghana, France, and the international community in safeguarding a region vital for trade, fisheries, and coastal livelihoods.
The Gulf of Guinea faces challenges including illegal fishing, piracy, trafficking, and environmental degradation. Through initiatives like the Yaoundé Architecture and the SIREN Academy, Ghana is building the capacity of its officers and fisheries experts to better protect its waters.
Upcoming joint naval exercises will focus on combating illegal and unreported fishing, while enhancing collaboration with the French Navy and other partners.
Hon. Emelia Arthur emphasized that protecting fisheries is not just about enforcement—it’s about stewardship, sustainability, and securing opportunities for future generations.
She extended gratitude to France, the Gulf of Guinea Commission, and all partners for their support in ensuring Ghana’s waters remain a source of life and development for coastal communities.
