The National Theatre of Ghana has paid glowing tribute to distinguished contributors to the nation’s cultural heritage during the Ghana Theatre Festival Awards Night, with Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, and several retired staff receiving honours for their service.
Executive Director of the National Theatre, Henry Herbert Malm, commended the honourees for their lasting impact on Ghana’s cultural landscape. Quoting the timeless words of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, he remarked:
“A nation that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for.”
In her response, Hon. Dzifa Gomashie reaffirmed government’s commitment to investing in the creative arts sector. She revealed that discussions were ongoing to secure major renovations for the National Theatre, ensuring it remains a hub for Ghana’s vibrant performing arts industry.
The awards night formed part of this year’s Ghana Theatre Festival, which continues throughout the week with a series of performances, workshops, and exhibitions showcasing the richness of Ghanaian theatre and the creativity of its artists.
The event not only celebrated excellence in the arts but also highlighted the importance of preserving Ghana’s cultural identity while inspiring a new generation of creatives.
