The Government of Ghana has officially confirmed the tragic loss of eight lives following the crash of a military helicopter on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
Among those who perished in the incident were two prominent government officials — the Honourable Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Honourable Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology.
Announcing the national tragedy at a press briefing, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah expressed the government’s profound sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation. He also directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the fallen.

The victims were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 military helicopter on an official mission to Obuasi when the aircraft reportedly lost contact with air traffic control. Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the crash.
