KNUST Crowned Champions of Tertiary Business Sense Challenge 2025 – A Call to Invest in Youth Innovation

Ghana’s future entrepreneurs and business leaders once again took center stage at the Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC) 2025, a national contest that continues to prove the transformative power of youth innovation.

The grand finale, held at the Zenith University College auditorium in Accra, brought together three of the nation’s top universities — the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

After six intense rounds, KNUST emerged victorious with 77.17 points, clinching the golden trophy, laptops, cash prizes, medals, and book packages from sponsors, including ICAG. UGBS followed with 54 points, taking home medals, books, and cash, while UEW placed third with 51.83 points and also received medals, books, and a cash award.

The competition showcased not only academic brilliance but also the real potential of Ghana’s youth to provide solutions to pressing economic and social challenges. One standout, Kwadwo Acheampong of KNUST, was named Overall Best Performer, drawing admiration for his sharp intellect and confident delivery. He was honored with a special plaque and cash award.

Beyond the contest, the TBSC is more than a quiz — it is a platform for bridging academia, business, and governance. Quiz master Alhassan Trawule emphasized that the format now includes comprehensive business case studies, computer literacy training, and mentorship sessions with seasoned professionals, equipping students with practical skills for the job market.

The Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), organizers of the competition, commended the high level of business acumen displayed and reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing this initiative. “The TBSC has come to stay,” said the company’s Director of Marketing, calling for broader participation across tertiary institutions.

This year’s edition drew participation from more than 26 institutions, including new entrants, underscoring the growing recognition of the competition as a breeding ground for innovation and entrepreneurship.

The University of Cape Coast remains the most decorated school in TBSC history, with two titles (2019 and 2021), but this year’s victory signals KNUST’s rising dominance.

Why This Matters

The Tertiary Business Sense Challenge is more than a contest — it is an investment in the nation’s human capital. In a country where unemployment among graduates remains a challenge, platforms like TBSC provide students with the confidence, exposure, and networks needed to transform their ideas into real-world impact.

But here’s the truth: these bright minds can only go so far without the right systems supporting them. That’s why it’s time for government, corporate Ghana, and civil society to treat initiatives like TBSC not just as competitions but as pipelines for building Ghana’s next generation of entrepreneurs, job creators, and problem-solvers.

If we believe in the power of our young people, then we must also believe in creating the opportunities, policies, and investments that allow them to thrive. TBSC has shown us what’s possible — now, it’s on all of us to make sure their brilliance does not end on the stage, but shapes the future of Ghana.
