The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has inaugurated a joint steering committee with the Ministry of Health (Ghana) to strengthen collaboration in the training of health professionals across the country.
The KNUST–Ministry of Health Steering Committee for Health Training Institutions is expected to guide strategic initiatives aimed at improving the quality of training for health personnel and ensuring that graduates are equipped with relevant 21st-century competencies for effective healthcare delivery in Ghana.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to align academic training with the practical needs of the healthcare sector, particularly as the country continues to face increasing demand for skilled health professionals.
Officials noted that the committee will play a key role in strengthening partnerships between academia and the health sector to ensure that training programmes remain responsive to evolving healthcare challenges.
Through the collaboration, stakeholders expect to enhance curriculum development, promote practical and industry-focused training, and ensure that graduates from health training institutions possess the skills required to deliver quality healthcare services.
The committee will also provide strategic oversight for initiatives designed to produce industry-ready health professionals capable of responding to emerging health threats, advancing medical innovation, and improving healthcare outcomes across the country.
The move is widely seen as an important step toward strengthening Ghana’s health workforce and ensuring that institutions such as Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology continue to play a leading role in training competent health professionals for the nation’s healthcare system.
