Police in Koforidua have re-arrested 29-year-old Vera Akosua Asare after the reported death of her partner, Daniel Omane, who sustained critical injuries during an acid attack earlier this year.
The incident, which occurred in March 2025, involved the alleged pouring of a corrosive substance on Mr. Omane while he was asleep in his residence. Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple shared a child, and the motive behind the attack is believed to be rooted in suspicions of infidelity.
Mr. Omane’s cries for help drew the attention of neighbours, who quickly intervened and rushed him to the Eastern Regional Hospital in a critical state. Ms. Asare was initially detained at the scene by co-tenants before being handed over to the police.
Following her first arrest, she was remanded into custody but was subsequently granted bail by the court to enable her to care for their young child, while Mr. Omane underwent treatment for extensive acid-related injuries.
After several months of medical care and complications arising from the attack, Mr. Omane is reported to have succumbed to his injuries in recent days. His death has prompted a renewed police investigation and the re-arrest of Ms. Asare, who is now expected to face additional charges in connection with the fatal outcome.
Authorities say further details will be communicated as investigations continue.
