Minister for Gender Hails Sunda International as a Champion of Gender Equity and Youth Empowerment

Ghana’s march towards equality and inclusive development has received a major boost, as Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has applauded Sunda International Company Limited for championing gender equity and job creation in the country.

During a working visit to Sunda’s Weija facility, the Minister toured the production lines and witnessed first-hand the company’s deliberate efforts to empower women and provide opportunities for the youth. What stood out most was Sunda’s achievement of a 50–50 gender balance in leadership and decision-making roles—a shining example of how the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024 can be translated into real results.

“Sunda International has demonstrated that gender equity is not just a policy—it is possible, it is practical, and it is profitable,” Dr. Lartey emphasized.

The Minister noted with pride that the company has created thousands of jobs, helping reduce unemployment while empowering households across Ghana. She called on other private sector players to learn from Sunda’s model by embedding gender equity and youth empowerment at the core of their business practices.

As part of its recognition, Sunda will soon receive a Gender Equity Compliance Certificate, placing it among the first companies in Ghana to meet the standards of the new law. The Minister stressed that such recognition positions private companies as leaders of social change, proving that inclusivity and business growth go hand in hand.

In a groundbreaking announcement, Dr. Lartey also revealed that government will partner with Sunda International on its flagship initiative to distribute free sanitary pads to schoolgirls nationwide. This intervention aims to improve menstrual hygiene, reduce absenteeism among female students, and ensure that no girl is left behind in education because of her period.

Sunda International—renowned for producing sanitary pads, diapers, washing powder, and tissue products—has emerged as not only a market leader in fast-moving consumer goods but also a key ally in advancing gender equality and social protection in Ghana.

The Minister concluded with a call to action:

“The future of Ghana depends on the choices we make today. Let the private sector follow Sunda’s example. When businesses invest in gender equity, they are not only doing the right thing—they are building a fairer, stronger, and more prosperous Ghana.”
