NIC Partners GJA to Boost Insurance Awareness and Media Capacity in Central Region

The National Insurance Commission (NIC) has deepened its collaboration with the media by donating essential office equipment to the Central Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), in a move aimed at strengthening public education on insurance and promoting financial inclusion.

The Central Regional Manager of the NIC, Nicholina Naa Yeye Adumuah, made the donation during a brief presentation ceremony, where she reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to regulating the insurance industry, protecting consumers, and ensuring market stability.

She emphasized that beyond regulation, the NIC is focused on expanding access to insurance services, particularly among underserved populations, noting that the media remains a critical partner in achieving this goal.

According to her, journalists play a vital role in educating the public, raising awareness about insurance benefits, and holding institutions accountable—key elements in building trust and increasing uptake in the sector.

Receiving the items on behalf of the regional executives, Isaac Arkoh, a member of the GJA, described the support as timely and impactful for the Association’s operations.

He assured the NIC of the GJA’s commitment to ethical and high-impact journalism that will amplify awareness of insurance and other development-oriented issues.

Mr. Arkoh further called on corporate bodies, institutions, and individuals to support the GJA in its mission to uphold professional standards, defend journalists’ rights, and promote press freedom across the country.

He noted that a strong and independent media landscape is essential not only for accountability but also for attracting investment and driving inclusive development in the Central Region, regardless of location, gender, religion, or political affiliation.

Advancing Financial Inclusion Through Media Collaboration

The partnership between the NIC and the GJA underscores the growing recognition of the media as a key stakeholder in Ghana’s financial inclusion agenda.

With insurance penetration still relatively low in many communities, stakeholders believe sustained collaboration with journalists can help demystify insurance, address misinformation, and encourage more people to safeguard their livelihoods against unforeseen risks.

The initiative is expected to enhance the capacity of journalists in the region to deliver impactful stories that inform, educate, and empower the public—ultimately contributing to a more resilient and financially inclusive society.
