The rude awakening?
Returning to my old school after nearly thirty years felt like stepping into a memory—familiar, yet strangely distant. The buildings that once loomed like giants now seemed smaller, almost appearing as dwarfs. I laughed quietly at how grand they had once felt, inflated by the wide-eyed wonder of youth.
Back then, those walls held power, mystery, even fear. Now, they were just bricks and mortar—unchanged, yet transformed by time and perspective. It struck me how much of life is shaped by the lens we are looking through. As children, we see giants but growth-driven adults see tools—stepping stones, not destinations.
Reflectintrospection
Walking those corridors, I felt a mix of gratitude and humility. Gratitude for the journey that had brought me clarity, and humility in realising how often we mistake proximity for truth.
The things that once defined us—grades, cliques, reputations, etc -fade. What remains is the growth, the shift in how we see.If we resist growth, we end up trapped in cycles that feel all too familiar—patterns that drain us( and those around us), yet somehow feel comfortable.
These giants of stagnation settle in, making a home in our lives. Many a time instead of confronting them, we point fingers outward, convinced that life has dealt us a cruel hand. But really, is it not our refusal to evolve that keeps us stuck, repeating the same story with different characters?
Growth isn’t just a choice but the only way to break free from the narratives that no longer serve us. Sometimes, we hold on too tightly to people or moments that once lit up our world. But when growth reshapes our perspective, we realise they were never as exceptional as we believed. They were just familiar—and we mistook familiarity for value.
Leaving the grounds, I didn’t feel nostalgic so much as awakened. Life had taught me that meaning isn’t fixed—it evolves. And sometimes, all it takes is a return to where we started to truly see how far we have come.
Serenity Prayer
Dear God, grant us the courage to evolve when comfort tempts us to stand still. Give us the humility to learn from every season—joyful or painful—knowing each holds a lesson and a blessing. Help us release the fear of change, and embrace the unknown with faith. Teach us to see beyond our limitations, to rise above old patterns, and to walk boldly into new beginnings. May we grow in wisdom, in grace, and wise in love—becoming more of who You created us to be. And when we stumble, remind us that growth is not perfection, but persistence. Amen.
