Police Arrest Man Seen Assaulting Wife in Viral Facebook Video

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral Facebook video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at their residence in Ofankor, within the Ga East Municipality.

The suspect, identified as John Odartey Lamptey, was picked up on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family home.

According to a police statement, two of Lamptey’s siblings—Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey—were also arrested after attempting to attack a female tenant they believed had recorded and circulated the viral video. Police intervened and rescued the tenant to ensure her safety.

Authorities say efforts are underway to locate the victim, Lamptey’s wife, reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that offenders face the full consequences of the law.

The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID.
