PPSB to investigate the conduct of Police officers in viral civilian brutalities

A case of an alleged assault by two police officers and a community police personnel on two civilians during an arrest has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for further investigation.

According to a police press release issued on the 2nd of July, 2025, the two suspects Shaluum Biney and Prince Binney were wanted by the police in connection with a case of assault and threat of death made against them. The two, according to the police press release, refused to be handcuffed during the arrest resulting in the encounter between them and the arresting officers. They were issued with medical forms to attend hospital for medical examination and have since been granted police enquiry bail.

However, a report by Sompa FM’s Eric Annan hinted that the two civilians have had some issues with their landlord for indulging in an illegal electricity connection. According to Eric’s report, although the landlord continues to enjoy electricity power, he owes the Electricity Company of Ghana, an amount in excess of Ghc10,000.00. The report further indicated that the two young men took matters into their own hands and connected electricity power illegally, a decision which was vehemently opposed by their landlord. The landlord proceeded to report the two young men to the police, accusing them of often smoking Indian herb at his residence.

The three police officers of the Saltpond Police Command in the Mfantseman Municipality in the Central Region were seen in the viral video, brutalizing the two young men.
