The Central Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for six suspects who escaped from lawful custody at the Kotokuraba Police Station in Cape Coast.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at about 9:00 pm. Information reaching the command indicated that six out of eight inmates broke free after overpowering an inspector who was supervising them.
The escapees have been identified as Kofi Asifuah, Ernest Kojo, Ekow Arhinful, Toffic Faisal, Henry Kwofie, and Innusah Addai. They were being held for various criminal offences.
(pictures of other escapees will be uploaded as soon as we get details from the C/R Police)
Speaking on the issue, the Deputy Regional Public Relations Officer of the Central Region Police Command, Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie said investigations reveal that earlier that evening, around 8:40 pm, the supervising inspector dispatched the station orderly to purchase food for the inmates after they complained of hunger. The inmates later requested water to flush the WC, citing that the taps were not running. While the inspector attempted to provide them with water, six of the suspects suddenly overpowered him and bolted from the station, leaving only two behind.
Upon receiving the report, the District Commander immediately mobilized a night patrol team to track the escapees. However, efforts to rearrest them that night proved unsuccessful.
The Central Regional Police Command has appealed to the public for support, urging anyone with credible information about the whereabouts of the fugitives to contact the police on 18555 or 0299205854, or report to the nearest police station.
Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the escape.
