Ghana’s commitment to protecting vulnerable families and building resilient communities was once again demonstrated as the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, visited traders at the Dansoman Market following the recent fire outbreak. The incident destroyed several stalls and tragically resulted in the loss of an eight-year-old girl, leaving many families shaken and livelihoods disrupted.
During her visit, the Minister engaged directly with affected traders, listening to their concerns and the difficult realities they now face. She assured them of Government’s commitment to supporting their recovery, emphasizing that no trader should be left behind as the community works to rebuild and return to economic activity.

Hon. Dr. Lartey further pledged the Ministry’s readiness to provide psychosocial support to all traders who have been traumatised by the event. She underscored the importance of emotional and social healing in addition to material assistance, noting that rebuilding lives requires a holistic approach. She also affirmed the Ministry’s determination to collaborate with relevant agencies to deliver coordinated relief and ensure that support reaches those who need it most.
As part of the visit, the Minister met with the mother who lost her young daughter in the fire, extending heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Ministry and the Government. She offered reassurance that the family will receive the necessary support during this deeply challenging time.
This tragic incident reinforces the urgent need for stronger market safety measures, better infrastructure, and sustained community preparedness. It also highlights the importance of swift, compassionate intervention whenever disaster strikes.
The Ministry’s visit serves as a call to action for all stakeholders—government agencies, local authorities, civil society, and community members—to work together to strengthen safety systems, protect livelihoods, and ensure that vulnerable families receive the care and support they deserve.
