There are moments in life that pierce the heart and leave us breathless with grief. Today is one of those moments, as we gather to honour and bid farewell to Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, a devoted son of Ghana who gave his life in service to our beloved nation.
Born on 5 July 1988 in Accra to the late Ex-Warrant Officer Class I Emmanuel Mensah Ashaiquaye and the late Victoria Abla Morkey, Ernest traced his roots to La Abafum Quarter in the Greater Accra Region and Ehi in the Ketu North District of the Volta Region.
Orphaned at a young age, Ernest found a mother’s love in Rev. Chief Supt. Stella Ama Katso Anku, who nurtured and guided him with care and devotion. From his earliest years, he carried a quiet strength, a humble spirit, and a heart anchored in faith, family, and service—values that would define his life’s journey.
He began his education at La Emmaus Presbyterian Primary (A&B) School and continued at La Enobal “2” Junior High School from 2001 to 2004. He later trained at Emit Electronic Institute from 2004 to 2007, where his passion for technical and mechanical work took root. Teachers and friends remember him as honest, respectful, and kind—a young man who listened more than he spoke, and whose words, when offered, carried warmth and wisdom.
On 5 July 2025, Ernest married Miss Mercy Amoah in a joyful celebration of love. Though their union was heartbreakingly brief, it was built on deep affection, mutual respect, and shared dreams for the future.
A devout Christian, Ernest was baptised and confirmed in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, South La Estate, later worshipping at the Presby Methodist Church in Takoradi. His life was firmly anchored in Christ, and he longed for his loved ones to know the saving grace of the Lord. He lived with eternity in view—humble, disciplined, and steadfast in his faith.
In his community, Ernest was known for his generosity and genuine care for others. His smile could light up a room; his kind words and helpful spirit touched all who knew him. He was the neighbour who showed up without being asked, the friend who stayed through difficult times, and the brother who gave without expecting anything in return.
For fourteen years, Ernest served with distinction in the Ghana Armed Forces. Yet, beyond the discipline of his uniform, his greatest legacy was the love he shared and the lives he enriched. His devotion to God, his commitment to family, and his compassion for humanity will remain an enduring testimony of a life well lived.
Rest in perfect peace, faithful servant. Your earthly mission is complete, and your crown awaits you in glory.
