TTU Takes TVET Advocacy to TTI, Inspires Youth to Transform Skills into Opportunity

Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has intensified its advocacy for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), taking its message of skills-driven transformation directly to students and staff of the Takoradi Technical Institute (TTI).

The engagement, held during TTI’s SRC Week celebration under the theme “Transforming Lives through TVET Skills,” brought together over one thousand students and staff, highlighting the growing national momentum to reposition TVET as a viable and respected pathway to employment, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

Addressing the gathering, the Director of Quality Assurance and Academic Planning at TTU, Prof. Kweku Safo-Ankama, described TVET as a powerful blend of theory, hands-on practical training, and positive work ethics. He stressed that TVET equips learners not only for direct employment but also for self-employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong adaptability in a rapidly changing world of work.

According to Prof. Safo-Ankama, TVET is no longer a “last option” but a strategic choice for young people seeking relevant, market-ready skills. He encouraged students of TTI to consider Takoradi Technical University as a preferred destination for post-secondary TVET education, citing the University’s industry-aligned programmes, robust quality assurance systems, and strong commitment to producing competent, innovative graduates.

He further introduced students to the National TVET Qualification Framework (NTVETQF), explaining the clear and flexible progression pathways it provides—from certificates and diplomas to higher academic degrees. This, he noted, ensures that students who choose TVET are not limited in their academic or professional advancement.

Beyond technical skills, Prof. Safo-Ankama challenged students to embrace entrepreneurship, teamwork, and critical thinking, emphasizing that these competencies are essential for success in today’s technology-driven economy. He urged them to see themselves not only as future employees but also as job creators capable of improving livelihoods and contributing meaningfully to national development.

The engagement underscored TTU’s broader mission to champion TVET as a catalyst for youth empowerment, industrial growth, and inclusive development. By taking TVET advocacy directly to technical institutes, TTU is helping to reshape perceptions, inspire confidence, and build a skilled workforce ready to drive Ghana’s socio-economic transformation.
