Twifoman Traditional Area Set to Celebrate Tu’anko Festival 2025

As the vibrant colors of November approach, the Twifoman Traditional Area is preparing to come alive with the much-anticipated Tu’anko Festival, scheduled from November 10th to 16th, 2025. This year’s theme, “Unlocking Developmental Potentials through Festival,” reflects the spirit of resilience, unity, and growth that continues to define the Twifo people.

The history of the Twifo is one of courage and determination. Their ancestors, led by Nana Otumfour Asare, migrated to settle at Old Hemang, now known as Kumkumso. Along their journey, they encountered many challenges, including fierce conflicts with the powerful Denkyira State. In 1553, Otumfour Asare courageously resisted Denkyira’s dominance, leading his people in a struggle for independence. Though initially defeated and forced to flee, the Twifo regrouped, established the Akwamu Kingdom at Asamankese, and eventually returned to their roots, where they preserved their culture and identity.

The very name “Twifo” — derived from their language, Twi — stands as a symbol of their heritage and resilience. Over the centuries, the Twifo have overcome trials while remaining deeply connected to their traditions and land. The Tu’anko Festival embodies this spirit, offering a vibrant platform to honor their ancestors, celebrate cultural identity, and strengthen bonds within the community.

This year’s festival promises a week of rich cultural experiences, including traditional performances, durbars, exhibitions, and communal activities that showcase the unique heritage of the Twifo people. Beyond the celebrations, the festival will also serve as a forum for dialogue on developmental initiatives, highlighting how culture can inspire collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth.

The 2025 edition is proudly sponsored by Nkunim Events Ent. Co. Ltd., reaffirming its commitment to promoting local culture while driving economic development in the region.

We warmly invite all Ghanaians, visitors, and well-wishers to join us in Twifo Hemang from November 10th to 16th, 2025. Together, let us celebrate our history, embrace our culture, and unlock the future potential of the Twifo community through this joyous festival of tradition and unity.
