Two faculty members from the School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS) at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have secured a $25,000 grant from Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) to support an outreach initiative known as the Community Eye Care Project.
The project, officially titled Optometric Service and Community Outreach Practical Experience (Opto-SCOPE), is led by Dr. Michael Ntodie and Dr. Enyam Morny.

The Opto-SCOPE Project seeks to provide sustained optometric services to underserved communities, while offering final-year optometry students valuable clinical training opportunities under the direct supervision of faculty members.
According to the project leads, the initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical experience, equipping students with real-world clinical exposure while contributing to improved access to eye care services in rural and low-income areas.
The grant from Optometry Giving Sight, a global organization committed to supporting vision care initiatives, underscores international recognition of the University of Cape Coast’s leadership in advancing optometric education, community service, and healthcare accessibility in Ghana.
