The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has held a farewell dinner in honour of Prof. Francisca Dora Edu-Buandoh, an alumna of the university and Ghana’s newly appointed High Commissioner to Canada. The event was held on 22 October 2025, ahead of her departure to Ottawa, Ontario, to officially assume her diplomatic duties.
The ceremony brought together members of management, faculty, staff and student leaders to celebrate her achievements and wish her well in her new national role.
Delivering the welcome remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Aheto, highlighted Prof. Edu-Buandoh’s outstanding contributions to the growth and reputation of the University of Cape Coast and her service to national development. He noted that her distinguished leadership and public service record contributed to her appointment by the President of the Republic.
Prof. Aheto encouraged her to continue upholding the confidence reposed in her and assured her of UCC’s unwavering support as she forges new international collaborations for the university.
Proposing a toast, the Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, Prof. Rofela Combey, invoked goodwill and success for her as she embarks on the next chapter of her career.
In her response, H.E. Prof. Edu-Buandoh expressed profound appreciation to the UCC community for the honour, love and encouragement extended to her. She spoke fondly of her long-standing connection to the institution where she nurtured her academic career and sharpened her leadership.
She reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening partnerships for UCC on the global stage and pledged to proudly represent both Ghana and her alma mater in her new role.
A citation of honour was presented to her in recognition of her dedicated service and remarkable achievements within the university.
