Rest is important

Nearly a quarter of a century ago, I found myself locked in an exhausting rhythm at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Every fifth week, I braced for a grueling 48-hour weekend duty, followed by a never-ending Monday of specialist consultations. As fatigue settled deep into my bones, Tuesday ushered in yet another 24-hour shift, and the cycle continued relentlessly. I became a shadow of myselfβa living ghostβnever fully recovering before the next wave of demands crashed down.
Even during my annual leave, instead of resting, I filled every moment with locum slots, returning worse than before. I chased output at the cost of my own well-being, unaware of the toll it would take. Looking back, I wish someone had urged me to find balance sooner. But would I have listened? Wasn’t I too caught up in the momentum to hear the warning signs?
Introspection
How do you prioritise work-rest balance?
Reflection
βοΈSome of us think the world cannot exist without us and break our backs only for those coming after us to make nonsense out of our sweats.
πBreaks, including annual leaves, aren’t just time offβit is a reset button for our mind, body, and overall happiness.
βοΈSo, donβt just take a time offβmake it count. Whether it is an adventure, relaxation, or simply a reset, embrace the time to refresh and come back stronger!
π Non-stop work drains our energy. Taking a break lets us rest, reset, and return stronger, preventing burnout.
βοΈ A well-rested mind works smarter. We come back refreshed, full of ideas, and ready to tackle challenges.
βοΈ Stress piles up if we never pause. Time off lowers anxiety, clears our mind, and helps us feel more balanced.
βοΈ Whether it is catching up with loved ones, travelling, or simply slowing downβbreaks help us enjoy life outside of deadlines.
βοΈ Stepping away lets us reevaluate goals, explore new interests, and gain a fresh perspective on where we are headed.
βοΈ A healthy work-life balance makes us happier, more motivated, and less likely to feel drained every day.
βοΈ When we take breaks, we return energised, boosting team morale and overall workplace success.
π Serenity π
β¦οΈIf we donβt take a break, our body will schedule oneβ¦ without our consent.
πMay we have rest sense. Amen
If we do not take a break the body will break down. Let’s make time to rest and rejuvenate.
