Scenes from the forecourt of the Elmina Magistrate Court have left stakeholders questioning the health and safety conditions of legal practitioners, court officials, and members of the public, as a heap of refuse awaits relocation.
A visit to the premises revealed several schoolchildren and local residents adding to the already deteriorating sanitation situation.
Addressing the issue with a team from Ahomka FM, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality, Hon. Ismail Saeed Zagoon, acknowledged the challenges and assured that efforts are underway to improve waste management across the area. He noted that while the municipality is constrained by a limited number of waste transport vehicles, steps are being taken to engage with relevant agencies and organizations to explore sustainable waste disposal solutions.
In the meantime, several stakeholders have called for the immediate relocation of the refuse collection point from the court premises to a more suitable location, in order to restore environmental hygiene and preserve the dignity of the judicial facility.
