A high-level delegation from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), led by Director General Daren Tang, has paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, to explore deeper collaboration in strengthening the country’s intellectual property ecosystem.

During the meeting, WIPO announced the rollout of a six-month training and mentorship programme targeted at women in agribusiness and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The initiative is designed to equip participants with practical skills in intellectual property management, branding, innovation, and product development.
Mr. Tang expressed WIPO’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic transformation, emphasizing that intellectual property must become a tool for growth and opportunity in the developing world.
Hon. Ofosu-Adjare applauded WIPO for prioritizing women and SMEs—sectors she described as central to Ghana’s industrial and trade agenda. She highlighted the importance of packaging and branding in boosting market competitiveness and welcomed WIPO’s plan to train entrepreneurs in modern packaging techniques.
“Anything that will help promote proper packaging is always welcome,” she stated, urging WIPO to fast-track implementation to ensure entrepreneurs benefit as soon as possible.
The Minister added that empowering women in agribusiness and SMEs aligns with Ghana’s broader goals of job creation, export diversification, and inclusive economic development.
The meeting closed with a shared commitment to strengthen Ghana–WIPO cooperation and ensure the new programme delivers meaningful impact for Ghanaian entrepreneurs, particularly women-led businesses.
