The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates.
A total of 603,328 students from 20,395 schools sat for the examination, which was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide. The candidates included 72 with visual impairments, 239 with hearing impairments, and 161 with other special needs. WAEC reported that 2,526 candidates were absent.
In its statement, WAEC confirmed that the 36th Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved sanctions after investigations into cases of malpractice. The measures include:
-
Cancellation of subject results for 718 candidates
-
Cancellation of entire results for 177 candidates
-
Withholding of subject results for 1,240 candidates
-
Withholding of entire results for 93 candidates
Overall, 895 results were cancelled while 1,333 remain withheld pending further review. Results from 119 schools have already been cancelled, with 87 schools still under investigation. A final decision on the withheld cases is expected by September 6.
Students can check their results online at www.waecgh.org or, if affected, verify the status of withheld or cancelled results at https://irreg.waec.org.
WAEC also issued a strong warning against individuals who promise to alter results for a fee, describing such claims as fraudulent. The Council emphasised that all results are secure and verifiable.
The Council extended appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school heads, invigilators, and examiners for their support in the successful conduct of the 2025 BECE.
