In a solemn but uplifting tribute, President John Dramani Mahama has recognised 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu for their courage and patriotism in recovering the remains of eight victims of the tragic military helicopter crash of August 6, 2025.
The accident, which occurred in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve, led to the painful loss of several distinguished leaders, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
On behalf of the President, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, visited Sikaman-Brofoyedu on August 27 to deliver the President’s message of gratitude. “The President has asked me to come and thank the residents who helped recover the bodies of our eight men. We have a plaque for all of you in honour of what you did,” he told the community.
President Mahama has donated GH¢100,000 to the rescuers, GH¢20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council, and directed that all 13 residents be offered employment opportunities aligned with their skills. He further committed to rehabilitating local roads and investing in the community’s infrastructure as a mark of appreciation.
The recognition of Sikaman-Brofoyedu has been welcomed nationwide as a shining example of Ghanaian unity, courage, and resilience. At a time of mourning, the heroic actions of these ordinary citizens stand as a beacon of hope, service, and solidarity for the entire nation.
