Ghana Launches 2025 National Cybersecurity Awareness Month in Accra

The Media Launch of the 2025 edition of the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) has been held in Accra, setting the tone for a nationwide campaign in October aimed at promoting digital safety and resilience.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), underscored the collective responsibility of safeguarding Ghana’s digital space.

“Cybersecurity is everyone’s business,” he stressed, calling on all stakeholders — government, ministries, departments, agencies, private businesses, academia, civil society, and individual citizens — to complement the Cyber Security Authority’s (CSA) efforts by conducting awareness initiatives throughout October and beyond.

He acknowledged the media’s vital role in building national momentum towards a safer and more accountable digital ecosystem.

The Director-General of the CSA, Mr. Divine Selase Agbeti, revealed that cyber threats in Ghana are rising at alarming levels, urging the public to take awareness seriously.
“Every day, individuals fall victim to scams. Fraudsters impersonate government officials, institutions, and businesses to run job recruitment scams, contract scams, and online shopping scams, all leading to financial losses. Children and young people are also increasingly targeted for online blackmail and sextortion,” he cautioned.

Adding her voice, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Police CID, stressed that the fight against cybercrime requires an all-hands-on-deck approach. “Government, the private sector, academia, the media, and ordinary citizens all have critical roles to play,” she said.

Also addressing the gathering, Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann reminded Ghanaians that cyberspace is not inherently safe. Sharing her personal experience of online disinformation, she emphasized academia’s role in research, innovation, and capacity building for national cyber resilience.

The 2025 National Cybersecurity Awareness Month will run in October under the leadership of the CSA, featuring nationwide campaigns, stakeholder engagements, and community-driven initiatives to strengthen Ghana’s digital safety.
