TTU Refutes Claims of Unrest, Reaffirms Calm and Stability on Campus

Takoradi, Ghana – The management of Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has dismissed reports circulating in sections of the media alleging disturbances on its campus involving students and the Ghana Police Service.

In a statement signed by the Registrar, Dr. Moses Maclean Abnory, and issued on Wednesday, September 18, 2025, the University described the reports as “entirely false, misleading, and should be disregarded.”

The clarification comes in the wake of recent unrest at Tamale Technical University, where tensions between students and management escalated into confrontations, sparking widespread media coverage and public concern about security on tertiary campuses. TTU’s management emphasized that no such incidents have occurred in Takoradi.

“We wish to state emphatically that no such unrest has occurred at TTU. Any publications or images purporting to link TTU students with disturbances are entirely false,” the release stressed.

The University assured the public that its campus remains calm, secure, and focused on its core mandate of teaching, learning, and research. It also highlighted its reputation as a peaceful hub for academic excellence and innovation.

TTU further urged the media to exercise due diligence and verify information with its Directorate of Public Affairs before publication, in order to avoid misrepresentation.

“Management assures students, staff, parents, guardians, and stakeholders that the University remains a safe, stable, peaceful, and enabling environment for scholarship and innovation,” the statement added.

While unrest at other institutions such as Tamale Technical University has raised concerns about student welfare and campus security, TTU’s firm denial seeks to draw a clear line between its environment and the challenges faced elsewhere in Ghana’s higher education sector.
