Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings Raises Alarm Over CMB Abuja Market Land Dispute

This morning, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, addressed the press on the long-standing dispute surrounding the CMB Abuja Market land, popularly known as the Railways land.

For more than eight years, despite the land being government property, private individuals have laid claim to it and have made repeated attempts to evict a community of over 3,000 people. This vibrant community is made up of GPRTU drivers, market women, and traders who depend on the space for their daily survival.

“This is not just about land ownership,” Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings stressed. “It is about people’s lives, their dignity, and their livelihoods. It is about families who depend on the income from this market to educate their children, and communities whose hard work keeps Accra moving.”

The MP further highlighted that the issue is bigger than ownership claims — it is a food security matter. The CMB Abuja Market serves thousands of Ghanaians each day, providing affordable food to households while sustaining the livelihoods of drivers, traders, and their families. Any disruption, she warned, would destabilise not only the local economy but also access to food in the constituency and beyond.

In a firm call to action, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings declared her solidarity with the people of CMB Abuja Market, saying:
“I stand with the drivers, the market women, the traders, and the thousands of families whose survival depends on this market. Their struggle is legitimate, and their voices must be protected.”

She called on the Government of Ghana, the Minister for Transport, and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to urgently intervene and bring finality to the matter.

“Our people deserve clarity and justice. The government must act now to safeguard this critical hub of commerce and livelihood,” she concluded.
