The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has reaffirmed its commitment to justice following reports of alleged sexual abuse that led to the tragic death of 16-year-old footballer, at the Siano Soccer Academy in Amasaman.
According to the Ministry’s statement dated 7th November 2025, preliminary investigations reveal that the boy had allegedly endured sexual abuse for over three years at the hands of his coach, who had been responsible for his care. The shocking revelations came to light after the young athlete was admitted to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for treatment in December 2024, where he sadly passed away.
The Ashanti Regional Directorate of Gender has since launched follow-up investigations and engaged relevant stakeholders, including the victim’s family, to ensure justice is served. The Siano Soccer Academy has suspended the accused coach and temporarily closed its facility pending investigations, pledging full cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
The Ministry expressed its deep sympathy to the bereaved family, emphasizing that “crime has no expiration” and that it remains resolute in pursuing justice for the victim.
Since assuming office in February 2025, the Minister for Gender, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has engaged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to strengthen child protection and accountability within the football sector. The Ministry’s Orange Support Center and the Domestic Violence Secretariat are currently collaborating with the Amasaman DOVVSU and the Greater Accra Regional DOVVSU to investigate the case.
This tragic incident reignites national conversations around child safety in sports, the duty of care among coaches, and the urgent need for stronger safeguarding mechanisms across youth academies.
The call for justice is not only a fight for one family’s peace—it is a reminder that protecting children in sports must be a collective responsibility.
