The Ghana Gold Board (GGB), in collaboration with the Goldbod Taskforce and National Security operatives, has arrested 25 individuals, including both foreign nationals and Ghanaians, for their alleged involvement in illegal gold trading, smelting, and assaying activities.

The arrests followed two separate operations carried out at Dome Pillar 2 and Akweteyman-Achimota in Accra. Authorities retrieved over GHS 64,000 and USD 112,500 in cash, along with several gold bars and other valuable exhibits during the raids.
According to officials, all suspects have been granted police inquiry bail. Some have already been arraigned before court, while others remain under active investigation.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Mr. Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sanitizing Ghana’s gold trade, warning that unlicensed gold transactions remain strictly prohibited and that offenders will face full legal sanctions.

Mr. Nunekpeku emphasized that the latest operation demonstrates the government’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal gold activities, adding that the Board will continue working with security agencies to protect the integrity of Ghana’s mineral sector.
