Ghana’s renewed push for economic diplomacy has received a major boost following a high-level meeting between Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and renowned Qatari investor, Sheikh Mansour bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Al Mansour Holdings.

The meeting, held during Hon. Ablakwa’s official visit to Qatar, is being described as extremely successful, opening the door to what could become one of the largest foreign direct investment commitments Ghana has secured in recent years.
Sheikh Mansour, a prominent member of the Qatari royal family and a global investment mogul, has pledged multi-billion-dollar investments in several of President John Mahama’s priority national projects. These include the proposed new city project, expansion of rail infrastructure — with a particular focus on the Western Corridor rail network — a state-of-the-art gold refinery, and key components of the Volta Economic Corridor under the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative.

Additional areas of pledged support include the construction of regional hospitals and regional airports, further demonstrating the depth of Qatar’s interest in partnering with Ghana’s long-term development agenda.
According to Hon. Ablakwa, Al Mansour Holdings has committed to sending a high-powered delegation to Accra in the coming days to continue discussions with sector ministries and agencies, signalling strong intent toward turning the commitments into concrete investment agreements.

The Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized that the outcome of the meeting aligns perfectly with President Mahama’s renewed drive to reposition Ghana as a competitive hub for international investment. As President Mahama recently declared: “Ghana is open for business again.”
With Qatar emerging as an increasingly influential player in global investment, the engagement represents a significant step in Ghana’s efforts to attract strategic partnerships that can accelerate economic growth, infrastructure expansion and job creation.
More updates are expected as the Qatari delegation arrives in Accra to begin technical engagements.
