UEW Faculty of Science Education Receives GH₵70,000 Donation to Boost Agricultural Research and Infrastructure

The Faculty of Science Education (FSE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has received a GH₵70,000 donation from the Head of the Department of Agricultural Science, Dr. Joseph Kobina Essibu, to support research and infrastructure development within the faculty.

The donation is intended to facilitate the reconstruction of the agricultural laboratory and the establishment of a goat rearing facility, aimed at strengthening practical training and enhancing research opportunities for agriculture students.

Receiving the donation, the Dean of the Faculty of Science Education, Prof. Arkoful Sam, expressed profound appreciation and described the gesture as timely and strategic. He disclosed that GH₵50,000 of the amount will serve as seed funding for the reconstruction of the agricultural laboratory, while the remaining GH₵20,000 will be used to construct a goat pen to support animal science research and practical learning.

According to Prof. Sam, the initiative reflects Dr. Essibu’s vision to reshape and upgrade agricultural facilities within the University to improve research output and support sustainable agricultural practices. He noted that the project is also expected to contribute to food production for the University community and its surrounding areas.

Prof. Sam emphasised that the intervention aligns with UEW’s commitment to research-driven learning, innovation, and community development, adding that sustainable agriculture remains a key priority for the Faculty of Science Education.

He further acknowledged the contributions of the Vice-Dean of FSE, Prof. Benjamin Ghansah, and the University Farm Coordinator, Dr. Kwabena Kyere, for their roles in facilitating the donation.

The Dean assured stakeholders that the funds will be utilised judiciously and strictly for their intended purposes, reaffirming the Faculty’s commitment to transparency and accountability in implementing the project.

The donation marks a significant milestone in UEW’s efforts to strengthen agricultural education, enhance student research capacity, and promote sustainable development through practical and innovative learning.
