The Danish Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Jakob Linulf, has paid a courtesy call on the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Denis Aheto, in a move aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation between the Royal Danish Embassy in Ghana and UCC.
The engagement underscores the growing role of academic diplomacy in advancing sustainable development, particularly in areas of research, agriculture, renewable energy, peace and security, and climate action.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Linulf reaffirmed Denmark’s strong commitment to supporting UCC, noting that universities play a critical role in generating knowledge and solutions to global challenges. He praised UCC’s reputation in Denmark and encouraged faculty members to take advantage of opportunities such as the Danida Fellowship Programme, which supports advanced research and capacity building.
The Ambassador, who assumed duty in Ghana in August 2025, described Ghana as a strategic partner in West Africa and indicated that Danish universities are eager to deepen academic ties with UCC through staff exchange, joint research and knowledge sharing. He added that Denmark remains committed to strengthening economic cooperation with Ghana in ways that align with the sustainable development priorities of both countries.
In his response, Prof. Denis Aheto welcomed the visit, describing it as an important opportunity to expand UCC’s international partnerships. He noted that the University is keen on accessing Danish research grants and technical support to strengthen its academic and innovation capacity.
Prof. Aheto further expressed UCC’s readiness to undertake a reciprocal visit to the Danish Ambassador, enabling faculty members to gain first-hand information on available academic and research opportunities in Denmark that could benefit the University and Ghana’s development agenda.
The engagement reflects UCC’s commitment to global partnerships, research-driven development and climate-responsive education, reinforcing the role of universities in delivering practical solutions in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
