Students of Assin Manso SHS Develop Solar-Powered Steriliser for Medical Use

Students of Assin Manso Senior High School in the Central Region have designed a solar-powered sterilisation system that could transform infection control in healthcare facilities, especially in rural and off-grid areas.

The invention, unveiled during the 6th Senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge organised by the Energy Commission, uses solar energy to disinfect medical tools without relying on the national power grid. This makes it both cost-effective and environmentally sustainable, while ensuring consistent access to safe, sterilised equipment.

The nationwide competition encourages young innovators to find renewable energy solutions to everyday problems. Organisers believe that projects like this will not only tackle immediate healthcare challenges but also nurture a generation committed to advancing Ghana’s clean energy future.
