More than 461,000 final-year students across Ghana began the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) today, Wednesday, August 20, starting with the Oral English paper.
This year’s cohort comprises 207,381 males and 254,259 females, representing a marginal increase of 1,029 candidates compared to the 460,611 who participated in 2024.
The examination is being conducted in phases, with practical papers having started earlier on August 4, while the main written papers officially began today.
This year also marks the fourth edition of the “Ghana Only” WASSCE, introduced to allow the country full control over its examination calendar. Previously, Ghana wrote the exams alongside candidates from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia. However, disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic prompted Ghana to adopt a standalone timetable.
Wishing all candidates the very best
