Entrance University of Health Sciences Opens New Schools to Transform Healthcare Training in Ghana

Ghana has taken a bold step forward in healthcare education. The Entrance University of Health Sciences has officially inaugurated its Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and a brand-new Dental Hospital at a colourful ceremony in Spintex, Accra. The event, held under the theme “Training the Next Generation of Health Professionals,” was graced by Her Excellency Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, former Minister of Education.

The day was as much a celebration of culture as it was of progress. Traditional drumming and vibrant performances welcomed dignitaries, with a cultural troupe giving a warm reception to Her Excellency on arrival.

In her keynote address, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang described the inauguration as nothing short of historic. “It is indeed an achievement to have the first private tertiary institution in Ghana establish a dental school and commence medical and dental training simultaneously,” she said, applauding the university’s leadership for their vision and determination.

She praised the directors and managers of the institution for their unwavering commitment to excellence, encouraging them to remain focused on quality and service. Beyond congratulating the university, she highlighted the deeper meaning of the initiative — its potential to transform healthcare delivery in Ghana.

The integration of academic training with hands-on clinical practice at the newly established dental hospital, she explained, would not only sharpen students’ skills but also serve the surrounding Spintex community and beyond. “The establishment of these schools and hospital will allow students to gain essential clinical exposure while providing specialized care to the local population,” she noted.

Her Excellency ended with a heartfelt blessing: “May the Entrance University of Health Sciences flourish for the good, health, and dignity of our people.”

For many in attendance — from students and faculty to invited guests — the event was more than a formal opening. It felt like the beginning of a new chapter in Ghana’s health sector. By addressing the country’s doctor-to-population ratio and expanding access to quality healthcare education, Entrance University has positioned itself as a trailblazer in private medical training.

Why This Matters

At a time when Ghana is struggling with healthcare gaps, initiatives like this remind us that solutions are possible when vision meets action. This is not just an investment in education; it is an investment in lives, communities, and the future of our nation’s health.

If nurtured and supported by government, private stakeholders, and civil society, Entrance University’s bold step could become a turning point — producing the doctors, dentists, and nurses who will serve not just Spintex, but Ghana as a whole.

The message is clear: when we invest in training the next generation of health professionals, we invest in the dignity and wellbeing of every Ghanaian.
