Mining Indaba: African Integration Requires Collective Will and Strong Institutions – Armah-Kofi Buah

Africa’s quest for deeper integration will only succeed if countries deliberately align national reforms with shared continental goals, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), has said.

Speaking at a policy forum at the ongoing Investing in Africa Mining Indaba 2026, the Minister noted that while the continent continues to face significant challenges, Africa stands at a critical moment where true integration is within reach—provided there is collective commitment from governments, institutions and stakeholders.

“Despite our challenges, Africa stands on the threshold of true integration,” Hon. Buah stated. “Our success hinges on our collective will to align national reforms with continental objectives, build institutions that outlive political cycles, and foster transparency that earns both investor confidence and citizen trust.”

Drawing on Ghana’s experience, the Minister highlighted the importance of good governance and structured policy frameworks in advancing integration. He described the journey towards continental unity as a long-term process that requires resilience and consistency, rather than quick fixes.

“Integration is a marathon, not a sprint. Ghana’s journey shows that with strong governance, clear frameworks and determination, we can move from aspiration to achievement,” he said.

Hon. Buah called for urgent systemic action across the continent, urging African leaders to put in place the institutional foundations needed to make integration irreversible. According to him, transparency, accountability and robust governance systems are essential to translating Africa’s integration agenda into tangible outcomes.

“Let us build the systems today that make an integrated Africa not just a possibility, but an inevitability,” he added.

The Minister’s address is expected to influence ongoing policy discussions and reforms aimed at strengthening African unity, improving governance in the extractive sector, and boosting investor confidence across the continent.
