UMaT Appoints Prof. Bernard Kumi-Boateng as New Vice Chancellor

The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, has appointed Professor Bernard Kumi-Boateng as its new Vice Chancellor, effective August 1, 2026.

The decision was taken at the University Council’s 98th Emergency Meeting held on April 13, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the University, the appointment follows a rigorous and transparent selection process conducted by a duly constituted Search Committee. The Committee undertook an extensive national and international search, applied clearly defined criteria, and carried out a thorough evaluation of candidates before submitting its recommendations to the Council.

The Council, after careful consideration of the Committee’s report, approved the appointment of Professor Kumi-Boateng in recognition of his distinguished academic record, leadership experience, and demonstrated capacity to advance the strategic vision of the University.

Chairperson of the University Council, Professor (Mrs) Goski Alabi, expressed confidence in the new Vice Chancellor, stating that he possesses the vision, integrity, and leadership capability required to guide UMaT into its next phase of growth. She noted that his track record in academic leadership, research, and institutional development makes him well suited for the role.

The Council also expressed appreciation to members of the Search Committee for their diligence, professionalism, and commitment to ensuring a credible and merit based selection process.

UMaT is widely recognised as a leading institution in mining, engineering, and applied sciences in Ghana.
