The Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for the Effutu, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has reaffirmed the importance of principled diplomacy and people-centred governance following a high-level meeting with the German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft.
The discussions focused on matters of mutual interest between Ghana and Germany, with particular emphasis on democratic accountability, the rule of law, job creation and sustainable economic growth — issues both leaders acknowledged as essential pillars of responsible governance.

Also featuring prominently in the engagement were opportunities for expanded cooperation in technical and vocational skills training, as well as capacity-building support for Members of Parliament, especially first-time legislators. The meeting further touched on preparations toward the upcoming German-African Summit, expected to deepen collaboration between Germany and African partners on development and economic transformation.
Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin used the occasion to convey the gratitude of the people of Effutu for the longstanding support the constituency has enjoyed from the German Government over several decades.
That relationship dates back to the 1980s, when German volunteers first established their presence in the constituency. What began as development cooperation has evolved into one of the area’s most significant skills empowerment legacies through the Winneba Vocational Training Institute.
Today, that partnership remains active and impactful. German volunteers continue to visit Effutu almost every other month, offering practical apprenticeship training across various trades. Their contribution has played a critical role in nurturing skilled artisans, empowering entrepreneurs and strengthening local economic resilience.
The engagement underscored the enduring strength of relations between Ghana and Germany — a partnership anchored in mutual respect, democratic values and a shared commitment to improving livelihoods.

For Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the meeting served as a timely reminder that diplomacy must ultimately translate into real opportunities for citizens.
As both nations continue to deepen cooperation, the message remains clear: accountable leadership, investment in human capital and strategic international partnerships are indispensable to building inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
Diplomacy in service of the people.
