The Government of Ghana is strengthening international cooperation in the fisheries sector following high-level discussions between the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, and the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Ghana, Dr. Abdulla Al Mandoos.

The courtesy visit, held at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Ghana, focused on exploring strategic investment opportunities and strengthening bilateral partnerships within Ghana’s fisheries industry.

Discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in fish production, fish exports, mariculture development, and broader investment opportunities aimed at transforming the sector and improving livelihoods.

Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Al Mandoos reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting ocean-related initiatives in Ghana while exploring sustainable investments in the fisheries sector. According to the Ambassador, understanding Ghana’s needs and learning from the country’s experiences would be essential in building long-term and impactful partnerships.

He further emphasized the enormous economic potential of fish production in Ghana and called for stronger connections between African and global markets to unlock new trade and investment opportunities.

Hon. Emelia Arthur welcomed the renewed interest from the UAE and expressed confidence in the prospects of a stronger Ghana-UAE partnership. She described fish production and exports as critical growth areas capable of creating jobs, improving food security, and driving economic development.

The Minister also stressed the need to strengthen compliance within the fisheries sector through collaboration with development partners while expanding opportunities in mariculture to ensure sustainable growth.
